Editing Analysis
I chose to do my editing analysis on the Big Kahuna Scene from Pulp Fiction, directed by Quiten Tarantino. The scene starts with a POV shot of the doorknob turning. As the door opens, the camera angle switches between a view of inside the apartment and a view of the hallway, where Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta are waiting. As the two enter the apartment, the camera angle switches to a wide angle shot of the apartment then zooms in on the door closing. Upon entering the room Jackson and a character named Brett start a conversation and the camera switches between zooming in on both of their faces. Jackson then ask a question addressed to all three of the people in the apartment and the camera goes to a wide angle shot. As the conversation continues the camera angle switches to an over the shoulder shot of Brett, focusing on Samuel L. Jackson’s face. After this the camera zooms in on the iconic Kahuna Burger as Jackson grabs it then the camera switches to Jackson’s mouth as he bites into the burger. While Jackson eats the burger the camera zooms into a guy who is laying on the couch then switches to Travolta while he is in the kitchen looking for a briefcase. After finding the briefcase the camera switches to a worm’s eye view while Travolta opens the briefcase.
